Company History

The original practice was an Audivox hearing aid dealership. Ed Lyon sold hearing aids door-to-door, which was standard practice in the 1950’s. Ed and Jeanne Lyon later opened a storefront in downtown El Paso at 425 N. Mesa Street. The company operated from that location until 1976 when they built a new office building four blocks from the original location. The practice remained in that location for the next 32 years. Purchased in 1998 by Matthew and Kerry Lyon, the patient base and scope of practice expanded to include diagnostic audiology services. A new dba name was created to preserve the old, identifiable name and add an indicator of the new services: El Paso Hearing Aid & Audiology Center. With two full-time audiologists and three full-time support staff the practice outgrew its old home at 810 N. Kansas St. and moved to the current location in 2008. The state-of-the-art audiology clinic is housed in a 4400-square foot facility at 1500 N. Mesa St. The new building has spacious patient examination rooms and allows for specialized patient service rooms. Front-door parking and a large parking lot are appreciated by our customers. We are located at the corner of Cliff and Mesa streets in the Medical Center area of town with easy access to physician offices. We are here for you Monday through Friday from 8:30 – 5:30.

Our second location, Las Cruces Hearing Center was purchased in 1999 upon the retirement of its founder, Harry Zimmerman, an audiologist who served as an instructor and mentor to Kerry and Matthew Lyon during their years in graduate school. The practice is in a medical condominium complex at 2525 S. Telshor Blvd. in Las Cruces, New Mexico, across the street from Memorial Medical Center. The office is open from 8:30 – 3:30, Monday through Friday and is staffed by one full-time employee. The practice has been in the current location for 21 years.

Southwest Hearing Services is located in Medical Arts Plaza at 1211 10th St. in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Southwest Hearing Services was purchased from George Morrison in 1998 when he left the profession of audiology to pursue other interests. He opened Southwest Hearing Services in 1979 and it is still operating for its original location.
